Taylor’s career kicked off at Tranmere Rovers in 2002. He moved to Premier League club Wigan Athletic in 2005. After scoring in four consecutive matches against Newcastle United he joined Newcastle in a trade deal in January 2009.
After Newcastle dropped out of the Premier League, Taylor helped the club to win promotion as champions of the Championship in 2009–10. In the time he spent at Newcastle, Taylor played 106 matches.
Taylor joins other former Newcastle United players Grant Hanley and goalkeeper Rob Elliot in promoting Hairbond products. Newcastle’s Paul Dummett was also snapped endorsing the brand at a training session.
In 2015 Taylor moved to Hull City. 12 months later he signed with Port Vale and again in March 2017. The following year he signed with Indian Super League club ATK.
After another 12 months, he returned to England and signed with Fleetwood Town.
He ended his 17 year career in the English Football League at the end of the season, having scored 42 goals in 350 competitive appearances.
Ryan Taylor came out of retirement in October 2020 to play for non-League side Colne and has since moved on to Buxton in January this year.
